• What should I do if I have damage/an accident in the Netherlands?

Damaging your car is very unpleasant, especially for you. To get you back on the road as quickly as possible, you can report the damage or contact our ANWB emergency number.

    Reporting damage
You must report any damage to DirectLease within five working days. We will then have one of our damage repair companies contact you to arrange the repairs. Here's how to report damage to us:

    1. Fill out the included “European Accident Statement.” If you no longer have this form, you can download it here.
    2. Save the European Accident Statement as a PDF file
    3. Take pictures of the damage to your vehicle
    4. Send the completed form (as a PDF file) and your pictures to schade@directlease.nl

Tip: you can also report damage with your smartphone. Simply go to www.mobielschademelden.nl and enter your information. Note! You cannot use the mobielschademelden.nl app if the counterparty (the other vehicle involved in the accident) has a foreign licence plate number. In that case, you must use the European Accident Statement (EAS).

    Has your vehicle become inoperable?
Contact the ANWB: 0592-390 537. This number is available 24/7. The ANWB will help you get the roadside assistance you need to get you back on the road.

  • What should I do if I have a damaged windscreen in the Netherlands?

Is your lease vehicle's windscreen cracked? That is unfortunate. For windscreen repairs, you can contact the Van Mossel Car Glass Service: 088-0870 150. If you prefer to make an appointment online, you can!   Use the Van Mossel appointment scheduler for this.

Tip: it is best to have a damaged windscreen repaired sooner rather than later. This prevents the damage from getting worse and saves you from having to get your entire windscreen replaced.

    Repair costs
In most cases, repairing a cracked windscreen is free of charge. However, replacing a windscreen often does affect your deductible.

  • What about my deductible if someone else damaged my vehicle?

Damaging your vehicle is never a good thing. If the damage was caused by a counterparty, it is important to fill out an Accident Statement together with this party and send it to schade@directlease.nl. If you prefer to report the damage using your smartphone, you can do so via www.mobielschademelden.nl

    Damage caused by a counterparty
If the damage to your vehicle can be recovered from the counterparty, you will not have to pay a deductible.

    Damage without a (known) counterparty
If the damage was caused by e.g. vandalism or an unknown counterparty, you must file a police report. As the damage cannot be recovered from a counterparty, your will be liable to pay the deductible.

    Guarantee fund

If you don't know who caused the damage, but you still wish to try to recover the damage, you must inform us about the incident within ten days, so we can file a claim with the guarantee fund.   You must also include two witness statements and file a police report.

  • What happens in the event of a total loss?

Damage to your car is never a good thing. If your vehicle is declared a total loss, your lease agreement will be terminated retroactively per the date of the incident. If the damage is non-recoverable, you will be liable to pay the deductible. If you have a replacement vehicle at the time of the total loss declaration, we ask that you return this vehicle as soon as possible. You will receive an email about this.

    New/replacement vehicle
We will do everything we can to get you a new/replacement vehicle as soon as possible. One of our Sales staff will contact you to discuss the possibilities.

Note: as the lease agreement is dissolved per the date of the accident, we will charge the actual rental cost of the replacement vehicle to the contracting party. This concerns the rental fees for vehicles.

My key doesn't work anymore. What should I do?

If your car key doesn't work anymore, you must contact an official dealer to schedule an appointment.   They will determine if your key can be repaired or if it needs to be replaced.

If your key no longer works due to a technical issue that you didn't cause, DirectLease will cover the costs. However, if you are somehow responsible for your key no longer working, the repair or replacement costs will be for your own account.

  • What should I do if I have damage/an accident in another country?

Damaging your car or getting in an accident in another country is very unpleasant. If this happens, you must always file a report with the local police department. This prevents potential issues when you want to leave the country. It is also important to take pictures of the scene of the accident, your lease vehicle and the counterparty's vehicle.

If your car is no longer roadworthy, you must immediately contact the ANWB International Breakdown Service by calling +31(0)541 571 710.

Note: in the event of damage or an accident in another country, you must always fill out an Accident Statement and send it to schade@directlease.nl. You can download this form here.
