Have a flat tyre? No worries, we’re happy to explain what to expect in terms of costs.
If a tyre needs repair or replacement for reasons other than normal wear, that counts as damage. For example, a nail in the tyre. The dealer or tyre fitter will check whether it can still be repaired. Those repair costs are not covered by the lease contract and will be passed on to you.
If the tyre cannot be repaired and must be replaced, we don’t charge you the full price of a new tyre. Instead, you pay for the portion of its natural usable life that has been lost (the remaining tread). We use the following method to calculate:
Example calculation:
Cost of a new tyre: €150
New tyre tread: 8 mm
Minimum legal tread: 2 mm
Remaining tread on damaged tyre: 5 mm
Usable tread: 8 mm minus 2 mm = 6 mm
A tyre with less than 2 mm tread is always replaced.
In this example, the damaged tyre has 5 mm remaining. You theoretically could have used 3 more mm before reaching the 2 mm limit. Because of the damage, that 3 mm is lost. That means you will be charged for half (3/6) of a new tyre.
Cost in this case:
€150 × (3/6) = €75
