APK is short for Algemene Periodieke Keuring. This periodic inspection is mandatory in Europe.
Gasoline or electric
If your vehicle has a gasoline or electric engine, the first APK inspection will be performed after four years. After this initial inspection, the vehicle will need APK inspections every two years until it is eight years old. From that time on, annual APK inspections are required.
Diesel or LPG
If your lease vehicle runs on diesel or LPG, the first APK inspection will be performed after three years. After this initial inspection, the vehicle will require annual APK inspections.
APK reminder
The current expiration date of your vehicle's APK inspection is listed on the website of the RDW. We understand that you are unlikely to check this website every day. We will therefore send you a reminder via email eight weeks before your lease vehicle's APK inspection expires.
Scheduling an appointment for an APK inspection
You can easily do this yourself using the workshop planner. You can choose the date and time that suit you best!
Note: keep in mind that it is your responsibility as a driver to schedule APK inspections for your vehicle in a timely manner.
