How does it work?

  • What about the travel allowance?

    You can offer your employee a tax-free travel allowance for the days on which they travel to work with their personal vehicle or public transport. You cannot give them a tax-free travel allowance for the days on which they come to work on their lease bicycle. Most employers compensate for the loss of travel allowance by increasing the monthly employer contribution by an equal amount.

  • Can I have someone else accept the bicycle on my behalf?

    No, you have to accept your lease bicycle in person and sign a receipt. When your bicycle is delivered, you will be asked for the document number of your passport/ID/driver's licence.

  • What happens once I have confirmed my order?

    We understand that you are eager to use your new bicycle as soon as possible. After choosing and configuring your bicycle, you have to wait for approval from your employer and/or DirectLease. Once that's done, we will ask your dealer to deliver your bicycle. You will be notified by email when you can pick up your bicycle (or when it will be shipped, if you opted to have the bicycle delivered to your home or work).

  • Is it possible to combine a company car with a lease bicycle?

    Yes, an employee can have both a company car and a lease bicycle. There are some differences to ensure there are two additional tax liability categories:

      • The additional tax liability for the company bicycle is 7%.
      • The VAT adjustment must be handled separately.
      • A combination with private lease is possible. The tax-free allowance for kilometres travelled by car for business purposes must be substantiated.

  • What if I want to use my lease bicycle abroad?

    Keep in mind that the 24-hour breakdown service is only available in the Netherlands. Of course, your bicycle insurance offers international coverage. You can claim the costs of emergency repairs by submitting the original invoice. Note that you will be liable to pay the deductible.
